Thats Qatar

hey there,
Qatar the land of sand? I dont know if thats a official description but its close to what I have experienced in the last 2 days.



I almost would have come to Qatar one day later, because the airline Qatar Airways overbooked the flight and they asked me if I would accept to fly on the next day
getting a free night at Sheraton Hotel and 600 Euros!! Phil and me already made plans to spend the money on the hotel room, but unfortunately some people canceled their flight so there was a seat for me.
The flight was really comfortable. Just like last year I really like the entertainment system they go on board.
It was easy to get a visa for Qatar at the airport so I took a taxi into town (almost took a Rolls Royce limousine-taxi, because I didnt know there are different kinds of taxis). The ride to my hostel was really exiting. I saw soo many tuned and new Mercedes, BMW and Porsche. All white and shiny. Everywhere they pull up new buildings and skyscrapers and they work 24 hours. On top my driver came from Bangladesh so we had a little talk.
Here at the youth hostel I met another German guy named Ivo (the only other guest) who is here for one week before he continues his trip to Singapore. Yesterday we did a trip into the sand dunes in the south of Qatar and sometimes though we would flip over because our driver knew the jeep and the dunes and took both to the limit.





Fun stuff. We did a couple breaks to take pictures, throw up (not really) and do sand boarding. Unfortunately they didnt have skis but I think I did a good job on the board as well.



At night Ivo and I went to the old city center to walk around the markets and have something to eat (flat bread with chicken and fish and vegetables). Today I slept long and then read alot. Yesterday I met a funny guy who told me how much he loved Germany, so we arranged that he picks us up at 3 and then we would have a cool beer and he shows us Doha, but he didnt show up. So I dont know if I go another time into town because its not that easy to get a taxi and not that cheap either. But I think I will walk around a little bit, although its soo hot and then get ready to leave Qatar tonight.
So yeah, I'm fine and really exited to see Bangladesh. By the way, the Lonely Planet Guidebook mentions as one of five highlights of Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) "getting the hell out of there." Lets see...
